Pirates make Cardinals Walk the Plank in World Series

The Pirates are our 2009 World Champions, following a thrilling come-from-behind seven-game win over the Cardinals in the World Series. Standings -- October 30, 2009

At long last here are the updated standings! Mets get the colors back; it's going to be a barn burner as we sprint for the finish line.

Speaking of barn burners, we were reminiscing about big time wrestling the other night, so here's a little Haystack Calhoun for you:

And speaking of finish:

Florin Division

1. Cardinals (39-30), .565, 0.0 GB
2. Red Sox (38-31), .551, 1.0 GB
3. Rockies (35-30), .538, 2.0 GB
4. Giants (37-33), .529, 2.5 GB
5. Cubs (30-39), .435, 9.0 GB

Gilder Division

1. Mets (40-28), .588, 0.0 GB
2. Pirates (38-33), .535, 3.5 GB
3. Yankees (29-36), .446, 8.5 GB
4. A's (27-34), .443, 8.5 GB
5. Reds (26-42), .382, 14.0 GB

Wild Card

2. Rockies (35-30), .538, 0.0 GB
1. Giants (37-33), .529, 0.5 GB
3. Yankees (29-36), .446, 6.0 GB
4. A's (27-34), .443, 6.0 GB
5. Cubs (30-39), .435, 7.0 GB
6. Reds (26-42), .382, 10.5 GB

Next action: Monday, November 2, at Foggy Bottom.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Standings -- October 21, 2009

[UPDATED October 26 with some interim results]

It's nip and tuck to see who survives into the post-season. Lots of remaining games will be tensioned filled.

Meanwhile, the trades have started to fly. So far:

1. The Reds get Nick Swisher and the Pirates' third round pick in exchange for Scott Downs and the Reds' fifth round pick.

2. The Mets get Michael Young and the Reds' fourth round pick in exchange for the Met's third round pick and a "player to be named later." Plus the Mets release Khalil Greene.

So the Reds part with Michael Young and Scott Downs plus their fourth and fifth round picks and end up with Nick Swisher, the Pirates' and Mets' picks in the third round, and a "player to be named later."

I dunno about the PTBNL stuff. Reminds me of someone...

Florin Division

1. Red Sox (37-27), .578, 0.0 GB
2. Cardinals (35-30), .538, 2.5 GB
3. Giants (35-30), .538, 2.5 GB
4. Rockies (31-28), .525, 3.5 GB
5. Cubs (30-39), .435, 9.5 GB

Gilder Division

1. Mets (37-28), .569, 0.0 GB
2. Pirates (33-31), .516, 3.5 GB
3. Yankees (28-32), .467, 6.5 GB
4. A's (25-33), .431, 8.5 GB
5. Reds (25-38), .397, 11.0 GB

Wild Card

1. Giants/Cardinals (35-30), .538, 0.0 GB
2. Rockies (31-28), .525, 1.0 GB

Standings -- September 15, 2009

An eventful week as we all got to the 54-game mark and that race in Florin for playoff spots remains nip and tuck. Red Sox take over the colors. And check out that race for the number one pick!

Also we had a very important 50th birthday last week, and I wasn't able to pick just one video in Shannon's honor. So here, in honor of the Birthday Boy, a trifecta:

Florin Division

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Standings -- September 9, 2009

A few tea parties over the last several days, so we'll update today and await Monday night at Foggy Bottom, which is also the 54-game deadline. 18-gamers await too -- will Teagarden carry the Cards into the post-season?

Meanwhile, at the risk of running these guys into the ground, this I thought was too good to pass up (note the Lew Fiske guy on lead guitar has lost the glasses and the 'stache and the fat guy got rid of the comb-over):

Florin Division

1. Rockies (29-22), .568, 0.0 GB
2. Giants (29-23), .558, 0.5 GB
3. Red Sox (28-23), .549, 1.0 GB
4. Cardinals (27-23), .540, 1.5 GB
5. Cubs (20-30), .400, 8.5 GB

5. Reds (18-31), .3367, 10.5 GB

Next action: Monday, September 14, at Foggy Bottom. That's the 54-game deadline!

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Standings -- September 1, 2009

The Commissioner's Office has kindly extended the 54-game deadline to September 14, so everyone should be able to make it OK. Meanwhile look at that race in Florin. Four teams separated by 1.5 games, and only three can make the post-season!

Meanwhile, we are on a bit of a Fernwood Tonight kick, so here is Jerry Hubbard at his best:

Florin Division

1. Rockies (29-22), .568, 0.0 GB
2. Giants (29-23), .558, 0.5 GB
3. Red Sox (28-23), .549, 1.0 GB

5. Reds (17-28), .378, 10.5 GB

Next action: Monday, September 14, at Foggy Bottom. That's the 54-game deadline, so get those tea parties in in the meantime, and put the word out if something else comes up!

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Standings -- August 25, 2009

Well that Cardinal winning streak is just a distant memory now. Check out that race in Gilder! It is deifnitely coming right down to the wire.

2. Giants (27-21), .563, 0.5 GB
3. Red Sox (26-22), .542, 1.5 GB

Next action: Monday, August 24, at Foggy Bottom. Put the word out if something else comes up!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Standings -- August 18, 2009

Not much movement after a Foggy Bottom get-together this week.

Meanwhile, it occurs to me that some of you could use some religion in your life, and I know how you youngsters like that rock-n-roll noise. So I hope this combines the two in a spiritually uplifting way. The blouses are a little low-cut so you might not want to play this in front of the kids. And I think that just might be Lew Fiske on lead guitar:

Florin Division

1. Rockies (27-20), .574, 0.0 GB
2. Giants (27-21), .563, 0.5 GB
3. Cardinals (24-19), .558, 1.0 GB
