The Reds have become the latest victims of the Giants juggernaut, suffering a sweep at the Giants' hands in the 2012 World Series. Cardinals, Rockies and Reds are in the playoffs! The battle for the last spot is between the Giants and Yankees. Yankees are in the clubhouse at 47-33, and the Giants have four left with the mighty Rockies. If the Rockies suffer an unexpected collapse during their final eight games the Giants could still back into the Curly Division championship. Failing that the Giants need to take two of their final four against the Rockies to clinch the wild card (they prevail over the Yankees in the head-to-head tie-breaker). Should the Rockies take three of four from the Giants the Yankees are the wild card. Meanwhile if the Athletics can manage one more loss out of their final two against the Mets they will clinch Chris Medlen the first pick in the draft. Should the Athletics win both of their final two the Pirates would take first pick (again, tie-breaker would decide). Lots riding on these final few games!

Standings (and League Restructuring!) - May 24, 2012

The League has reached a regrettable but necessary decision to cancel the Red Sox' 2012 season. Sure am gonna miss Foggy Bottom. The plan is:

1. Red Sox roster will remain frozen until the 2013 draft. If there is a viable plan to bring the franchise back at that point, then they will pick up there. If not, Red Sox roster will be released into the general draft pool.

2. In 2012 each team will now play each other team ten times, for an 80-game schedule. At the 2012 Commissioner Dog night, we will draw by lot to establish three three-team divisions. 2012 playoff participants will be the three division winners and the wild-card best second placed team. In other words we'll be doing the same thing as when we had nine teams previously.

3. We'll need to come up with a regular schedule to replace the every-other-Monday Foggy Bottom meetings we've been having over the last several years. Suggestions solicited!

4. Half way and three-quarters marks back at 40 and 60 games respectively.
